Joel T. Nadler is an avid collector of firearms and a proponent of the right to self-defense, and has been extensively trained in defensive firearm use. Joel holds multiple certifications as a defensive firearms instructor and continues his training to this day. He has taken and/or co-instructed all of the courses offered at Indy Arms, and has also taken multiple training courses from such providers as Front Sight, Glock, and others.

Joel is a firm believer in the need for proper training for anyone who owns, uses, and especially carries firearms. He believes in the - One way not The way - perspective of training and is constantly on the lookout for new ideas to incorporate into his own instruction. His passion is in helping newer and intermediate shooters feel comfortable advancing their skills and training for defensive use and carry, or just accuracy and competing.

When not training at Indy Arms, Joel uses his Ph.D. in Applied Psychology as a tenured professor and director of an Industrial/Organizational Psychology Master 19s program. As an instructor, he primarily teaches graduate-level classes and workshops for working professionals. He is also the co-founder of Alpha Omega Associates, a consulting firm focusing on helping organizations and designing corporate training programs.

Joel is proud of the training offered at Indy Arms and has spearheaded the integration of the USCCAs Defensive Firearms training into IACs curriculum. He currently teaches IAC Introduction to Handgun and USCCA Concealed Carry courses, as well as instructing many of IACs other classes. He also coordinates the GSSF Indoor and House leagues at Indy Arms Company.

Basic Defensive Handgun (4hr class offered various times each month)
4 Hour Basic Handgun Class Offered multiple times a week

Basic Defensive Handgun is a practical classroom and hands-on class in the use of a handgun in self- defense. Jeff Cooper, the legendary founder of Gunsite Academy, is quoted as having said, 1COwning a handgun doesn 19t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician. 1D And although marksmanship skill is critical to the ability to use a handgun in self-defense, marksmanship alone is not sufficient.

This class addresses the basic information, skills, and situations relating to the use of a handgun as a self defense tool. The class provides an overview of the legal, psychological, and law-enforcement response issues are addressed. (These are also covered in greater depth a separate Indy Arms classroom course, Fundamentals of Armed Self-Defense.) The class focuses on the fundamental safety, marksmanship and manipulation skills required to use a handgun effectively. (Carrying, drawing, and the associated equipment are covered in a separate Indy Arms hands-on course, Tactical Handgun I, II, and III.) This course will consist of about 2 FD hours of classroom and 1Cdry 1D handling and drills, and about 1 FD hours of live-fire range time. The class is nominally four hours in length, but may sometimes run a little run longer, depending on attendance and the number of questions.

The class will include the use of a rental gun at no additional cost, if desired. Students will also have the opportunity to handle, load, and fire several different types of handguns in .22 caliber. Students may use their own defensive handgun. Ammunition for the .22 caliber firearms, and 10 rounds of centerfire (defensive caliber) ammunition is included with the course. Students will receive a detailed course handout and additional information on available resources.

USCCA Concealed Carry (6hr Class offered once a month)
6 Hour USCCA Concealed Carry Class offered once a month

The USCCA Concealed Carry class is a defensive handgun course for those who carry, or are considering carrying, a handgun for self-defense. The United States Concealed Carry Association is one of the preeminent training organizations in the country. The USCCA provides Concealed Carry handgun classes, Home Defense firearms classes, and a broad range of superb training publications, videos, and on-line programs. The USCCA also provides a range of excellent self-defense firearm legal protection. Indy Arms is proud to currently have five USCCA-certified firearms instructors (and three USCCA Training Counselors) on our training staff (and all of those instructors are also certified by other major training organizations, including the National Rifle Association, Tactical Training Associates, and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy).

SCCA Concealed Carry is an informational and hands-on class in the carrying and use of a handgun in self-defense. Jeff Cooper, the legendary founder of Gunsite Academy, is credited with saying, 1COwning a handgun doesn 19t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician. 1D This class is meant to address that issue by providing some of the basic knowledge and skills that will contribute to your being effectively armed. The class covers firearms handling safety, range safety, and home safety. We summarize the legal, psychological, and law-enforcement response issues involved in using a firearm for self-defense. (And for those wanting more information, these topics are covered in extreme detail in a separate Indy Arms classroom course, Fundamentals of Armed Self-Defense.) We practice basic handling, operation, and shooting skills with training guns, 1Cdry 1D in the classroom. And the course concludes with live-fire session on the range allowing students to train with their own defensive handgun (rentals available) through a series of defensive drills. This course will consist of about 4 hours of classroom material and practice, and about 1 hours of live-fire range time. The class is nominally six hours in length, but sometimes runs a bit longer, based on student questions.

The class will include the use of a rental gun at no additional cost. Students should bring 100 rounds of practice ammo for their gun of choice. Additionally, students will receive USCCA 19s comprehensive full-color 245-page book, 1CConcealed Carry and Home Defense 1D along with additional information on available resources.

Tactical Handgun I (4hr Class offered once a month)
4 Hour Tactical Handgun Class Offered Once a month

Tactical Handgun I is the first of a series of three Tactical Handgun classes that address the essential skills required to use a handgun as an effective self-defense tool. Basic marksmanship ability and an understanding of the rule of law governing the use of force in self-defense are certainly a necessary part of this skill set. But for those seeking serious competence, a much broader set of abilities is required. Each of the three Tactical Handgun classes builds on the skills and techniques taught and practiced in the preceding classes.

The class will consist of about 2 hours of classroom time and 2 hours of live-fire range time. The class requires about 100 rounds of ammunition.

Prerequisites Students taking Tactical Pistol I should have an understanding of simple marksmanship, and the basic operation of their handgun. Individuals taking this class should have the personal handgun that they intend to use/carry for personal defense, along with a suitable outside-the-waistband holster or carry purse with a dedicated department for firearms carry. Indy Arms Basic Defensive Handgun, and Indy Arms USCCA Concealed Carry Handgun are acceptable prerequisites, as are most classes from recognized shooting schools. Experienced shooters who have not taken any formal classes should contact Indy Arms to make arrangements to drop by for a brief skills checkout. If you have any questions, please contact Indy Arms staff. .

Self-Defensive Rifle (4hr offered approximately monthly)
4 Hour Self-Defense Rifle Class Offered Once a month

Introduction to Defensive Rifle is an informational and hands-on class in the use of the modern semi-automatic rifle as a home defense weapon. The class is based on the most common self-defense rifles, of which the AR15 platform is the overwhelmingly dominant example. The Ruger Mini-14 (based on the Garand platform) and the AK family of rifles (commonly but incorrectly referred to as the AK47) are also suitable for the class. Rifles are extremely effective home self-defense weapons, and they have both advantages and limitations. These need to be understood and respected to use the rifle effectively and safely.

Rifle handling safety, range safety, and safe storage are addressed. We will go through the basic operating systems of these platforms, and the most common malfunctions. We will practice basic handling, operation, loading and unloading with dummy ammunition in the classroom, and proper mounting of the rifle and use of the sights. The course concludes with live-fire session on the range, shot at various distances and speeds. And can be shot with both iron sights and with optics if those are available. It is important to have usable iron sights on the firearm. Optics can be finicky, depend on batteries, and can sometimes be difficult to dial in.

This course will consist of about 2 hours of classroom material and practice, and about 1 hours of live-fire range time. The class is nominally four hours in length, but sometimes runs a bit longer, based on student questions. Students typically fire about 100 rounds of ammunition. .

Self-Defensive Shotgun
4 Hour Self-Defense Shotgun Class Offered Once a month

Introduction to Defensive Shotgun is an informational and hands-on class in the use of the modern pump or semi-automatic shotgun as a home defense weapon. A shotgun is an extremely effective, diverse, and psychologically intimidating self-defense weapon. But there are many misconceptions about it, and it is sometimes as intimidating to its users as it might be to an attacker. Shotgun operating systems tend to behave differently than most other firearms, and need to be understood and practiced. And shotguns can fire an enormously broad range of ammunition types, not all of which are suitable in some situations.

Shotgun handling safety, range safety, and safe storage are addressed. We will go through the basic operating systems (pump and semi-automatic) commonly used in self-defense shotguns. We will practice basic handling, operation, loading and unloading with dummy ammunition in the classroom, and proper mounting of the shotgun. The course concludes with live-fire session on the range, shot at various distances and speeds, and with different types of shotgun ammunition.

This course will consist of about 2 hours of classroom material and practice, and about 1 hours of live-fire range time. The class is nominally four hours in length, but sometimes runs a bit longer, based on student questions. Students typically fire about 50 rounds of ammunition. Typically about 35 rounds of birdshot, 10 buckshot, and 5 slugs. .
